A guest lecture on management thoughts from the Bhagavad-Gita was organised on the fourth day of MOM 2023 for New students. Dr. N. Gurunatha Naidu served as the event's resource person who is a senior marketing professor at Mohan Babu University in Tirupati (formerly Sree Vidyanikethan Institute of Management). He was also the former director of the Sree Vidyanikethan Institute of Management. He is an excellent motivational speaker.

The Bhagavad Gita, often known as the Gita, is a 700-verse Hindu text that is a part of the Mahabharata, an ancient Indian epic. This comprehensive literature on philosophy and spirituality includes lessons and discussions on numerous facets of life, as well as obligations, righteous living, and self-realization. Although the Gita is primarily spiritual and philosophical literature, it also contains some insightful management advice that may be used in a variety of situations, including those involving business and leadership.

In a business environment, the Bhagavad Gita should be interpreted and utilised with caution because it is spiritual and philosophical literature. Some of its concepts can improve leadership and management techniques when they are applied responsibly. Its teachings are intended to guide people toward self-realization and inner progress. The main objectives of the session were;

  • To understand how our thoughts are influenced by our minds and how the Bhagavad-Gita enables managers to balance their minds while making wise judgments.
  • Using lessons from the Bhagavad-Gita, one can integrate one's body, mind, and intellect to better understand self-management.
  • To focus attention and exert control over sensations by applying the proper Bhagavad-Gita advice.
  • To connect the substance of the Bhagavad-Gita to self-management.
  • To discover the proper paths leading to Dharma, "Artha", “Kama”, and “Moksha” in accordance with the Bhagavad-Gita.
  • To compel managers to possess "satwik" qualities by associating the Bhagavad-Gita with demonic traits and “satwik” attributes.
  • “Indriyas” (organic senses), “manas” (mind), “Buddhi” (intellect), and reasoning are all mentioned in the Bhagavad-Gita as being the mechanisms that drive human activity. How a manager must use “indriyas” for the correct reasons in order to make the right choices.

A Q&A session followed the intensely interactive discussion.  This highlighted the following;

  • What is life?
  • How do we select appropriate goals?
  • How do we develop equality?
  • How do we cultivate “sraddha” in our daily activities?
  • How to control the mind and what it is?

The main outcomes of the session were that the students were aware of the various mind processes and thoughts, the substance of the Bhagavad-Gita’s 18 chapters and how it influenced great leaders' shaping of their futures, managerial decisions and how they should be made and how to apply the guiding force's guidance. After all, they recognised the significance of the Bhagavad-Gita as a guide for mankind in achieving coexistence with humanity and divine.
